Benin Ivory Box Back Panel The back side panel depicts five warriors; the far right and far left personages are nude characters possibly captive military warriors each only wearing headdresses or helmets. The two right and left center characters are depicted carrying brass manillas, which are a form of money or currency used in West Africa, suggesting possible trade or commerce with the Portuguese merchants. The center middle character is the only personage holding a sword and shield.
